Neighbourhoods of Whistler

Whistler has been recognized as a leader in pedestrian-friendly resort design and function. You probably already know that.

What you may not know, is that there’s a huge variety of Whistler lodging types & a wide range of Whistler neighborhoods where these vacation rentals are located.

Holidaying in Whistler without a car is ideal… and possible. Most shopping, bars and restaurants are easier to get to by foot than by driving. Whistler taxis and the municipal buses are easy to use and pretty cheap.

Join us for a little tour from Whistler Creek, right past Whistler Village, Upper Village, and all the way to Nicklaus North. You’ll see that Whistler offers a wide range of vacation rentals, budget through luxury, located throughout the resort.

Whistler Village, the Upper Village, and Village North are within walking distance to the lifts and on the municipal bus route. You’ll find a good selection of restaurants, nightlife, and shopping in any one of these Whistler neighborhoods. Whistler Creek offers some ski in ski out lodging, but is located a short drive from Whistler Village. Nicklaus North is not within walking distance to Whistler Village; however, is on the bus route and offers greenside lodging for golf season.

Whistler Village

Whistler Village lies at the base of Whistler Mountain, offering immediate access to both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Whistler Mountain is accessible via the Fitzsimmons Express chairlift or the Whistler Mountain Gondola while Blackcomb Mountain is available via the Excalibur Gondola. There are many ski in ski out lodgings in Whistler Village, ranging from hotels like the Pan Pacific and Westin Whistler, to owner-direct rental condos.

Also, Whistler Village lies adjacent to the Palmer design Whistler Golf Club and Whistler Driving Range for golf season.

Upper Village

Adjacent to Whistler Village, the Upper Village sits at the base of Blackcomb Mountain. Blackcomb Mountain is accessible directly from the Upper Village via Magic Chair and the Wizard Express high-speed chairlift. Whistler’s Upper Village also presents many ski in ski out lodging options, including Fairmont’s Chateau Whistler Hotel, Le Chamois, and many owner-direct vacation rentals in the Glacier Lodge, Treeline, and others.

Whistler’s Upper Village is a short walk or shuttle to Lost Lake Park for cross country skiing in the winter and beach access in the summer. It is also handy to the Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club.

Village North

Immediately North of Whistler Village is Village North. Village North does not offer slope-side lodging, however it is only a short walk or free shuttle ride to the ski lifts of Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Village North offers easy access to the Lost Lake Trail System for cross-country skiing.

Village North’s strength is proximity to restaurants and shopping. Whistler’s Marketplace offers sushi, MacDonald’s, Starbucks, liquor, sports equipment, food stores, and everything else you might need.

Village North Accomodations include a range of condos and townhouses, from the economy of the Marketplace Lodge right through to the spacious and deluxe Montebello development.

Whistler Creek

Four kilometers (2.5 mi) south of Whistler Village along Highway 99, Whistler Creek also offers ski in ski out lodging. Access to Whistler Mountain is available via the Creekside Gondola. You’ll usually get a great run home at the end of the day on the Dave Murray Downhill race course. Oh yeah, and a cold beer and Whistler’s best bbq pork sandwich at Dusty’s.

Whistler Creek has been rebuilt with a mix of condos, townhomes, restaurants and retail. This area does offer private chalets and ski in ski out homes to choose from and always seems less busy.

Nicklaus North

Further north from Whistler, along Highway 99 towards Pemberton, is the Nicklaus North Golf Course. Also known as Green Lake Estates, this area offers great sun exposure, views of mountains and Green Lake, as well as proximity to the Lost Lake trail network are all pluses. You will also find a retail shop, restaurant and lounge at Nick North. A short bus or $5 taxi ride is all it takes to get to Whistler Village.

Lodging on the golf course is primarily million dollar plus chalets, with all the luxury you can imagine. There is also a small selection of town homes in the clubhouse and vicinity.
